General

To get a B.Sc degree in engineering, the MTC cadets have to spend 5 academic years at campus. During these 5 years, the cadets study a total of 6116 academic hours distributed as shown in the pie chart.

In addition to the usual engineering subjects that engineering students learn, our cadets study basic military subjects as well. The distribution of the 6116 academic hours over the different branches of subjects studied in the MTC is illustrated in the bar diagram given below.

In the first academic year, the cadets receive general engineering educational courses, as;Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering drawing, Computer Programming, Mechanics, Production Engineering, English Language, in addition to the military subjects.

Finishing the first year successfully, cadets join the major specialization stage where they join one of the main schools dealing with:

  Electrical Engineering
  Mechanical Engineering
  Chemical Engineering
  Civil Engineering
  Architectural Engineering

After the second year, cadets join designated specializations as follows:

Electrical Engineering School
Radar, Rocket Guidance , Communication, Computer , Optoelectronics, Electrical Power, Bio-Medical Engineering, and Electronic Warfare.

Mechanical Engineering School
Tanks, Mechanical Power, Motor Vehicles, Mechanical Equipment, Weapons and Ammunition, and Printing Engineering.

Chemical Engineering School
Explosives and Rocket Propellant, Chemical Warfare.

Aerospace Engineering School
Aircraft Ground Equipment, Aircraft Born Equipment, Aircraft Special Systems and Armament, Aircraft Mechanics, Rockets.

Civil and Architectural Engineering School
  Civil Engineering, Architecture

Under-Graduate Academic Calendar
The academic year is divided into two semesters, winter and summer. The starting date for each semester is determined yearly by the College Board. Usually the winter semester starts in September while the summer semester starts in the first week of February. The academic annual calendar (in weeks) is distributed as follows:

Evaluation
At the end of each semester, the cadets sit for exams in the already covered subjects. Type of exam is specified according to the teaching plans which includes Main, and Abridged subjects. Exams are basically written, and some courses have oral and/or practical exams in addition.

Forty percent of the total year mark is counted for cadet work during the year. For subjects including practical work , this percentage increases to fifty. The distribution of  total points of exams is given as follows:

First Mid-Term Exam Second Mid-Term Exam Practical Exam Teacher Opinion Final Exam
Courses with Practical 15 15 10 10 50
Courses without Practical 15 15 0 10 60

Grades for the main and abridged exams are Excellent, Very good, Good, Sufficient and Insufficient.

The grades are awarded  based on the following points distribution:

Excellent from 85% to 100%
Very Good from 75% to 84%
Good from 65% to 74%
Sufficient from 50% to 64%
Insufficient less than 50.

The cadets who get insufficient grades in no more than 2 main subjects is permitted to sit for corrective exams. Cadets who fail in the corrective exams must double the year in all  subjects. The cadets are not allowed to double the same academic year more than once, with the possibility of only three times for repetition during the whole period of study in the College.

At the end of each academic year every promoted cadet gets a final overall grade, e.g. Excellent, Very good, Good or Sufficient. This overall grade is calculated according to the total grades of the subjects already covered during the year.
